The Malaysian Wood Industries Association [MWIA] formerly known as Timber Trade Federation Malaysia was established on 1957 is a voluntary association comprising of seven [7] State Associations in Peninsular Malaysia. Originally comprising of mainly sawmillers in Peninsular Malaysia, MWIA now represents members with diversified business interests covering the whole range of upstream and downstream activities in the timber industry with the change of name in 2000.

The general objective of Malaysian Wood Industries Association is to promote foster of the interests of the timber industry. In discharging its responsibilities, MWIA has established a close rapport with the Government and its agencies. Our representatives are sitting on the Board of Management of The Malaysian Timber Industry Board [MTIB], The Malaysian Timber Council [MTC].

I especially thank Mr Goh Chee Yew, the previous president for setting MWIA on its current focus of empowering the youth in MWIA. Going forward we will continue to involve the youth members actively.
The timber industry is undergoing a major transformation; on one hand wood is now appreciated globally as a sustainable construction material and the demand is therefore increasing, on the other hand, there are questions regarding how well Malaysia is managing its forests and tree plantations. These are valid questions and I see MWIA as an important link...
