“It has been a privilege and honour to be elected President of MWIA and I benefit immensely from the work and effort of past presidents and EXCO members. I especially thank Mr Goh Chee Yew, the previous president for setting MWIA on its current focus of empowering the youth in MWIA. Going forward we will continue to involve the youth members actively.
The timber industry is undergoing a major transformation; on one hand wood is now appreciated globally as a sustainable construction material and the demand is therefore increasing, on the other hand, there are questions regarding how well Malaysia is managing its forests and tree plantations. These are valid questions and I see MWIA as an important link between the industry, the authorities and NGOs. We hope to engage constructively with the stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for the industry.
